Greta brings the Thump and Jo steals the show
photos by Ambyr D'Amato
With beautifully heartbreaking vocals and moments of pure awesome including an accapella sea chant-style opener that had me practically holding my breath with hushed excitement. Good stuff. Be sure to stay tuned for her new record produced by Martha Wainrwight and engineered by her husband and well suited bassist for the night, Brad Albetta

Pete Mitchell, Doran & The Violents bring the violence!
photos by Ambyr D'Amato
Doran Danoff and his killing country-tinged blues, soul, rock explosion tore the roof off 92Y Tribeca Cafe on Saturday night. Doran's songs remind me of a psychedelic wild-west shoot out between Tom Waits and Jeff Buckley and his meaty arrangements brought the house down. In addition to Doran's fine piano chops, The Violents featured banjo, electric and acoustic guitars, upright bass and a tasteful dose of drums.
Pete Mitchell (of L.A. based power-pop/funk band, No More Kings) kicked off the night with with his humorous 80's songs about the Karate Kid, ("Sweep The Leg"-->check out the YouTube vid), Short Circuit, and a clever ditty about, well, zombies. Some choice covers in there including Men At Work and Radiohead rounded out a fine set by the event's first official "west coast artist".
